Why Toddlers Learn to Say NO Easier than YES
August 4th 2008 05:03
It amazes me how toddlers learn to say No so easily than say Yes. My one year old could already say it with great dignity complete with head movement.
We can’t reason out that the word No is easier to learn because it’s shorter. The word Yes is just one letter more than it is. And the two words being both one syllable makes them almost equal.
It might be easier for them to say No because some kids really would have a difficulty with pronouncing the letter “S”.
Or, possibly, the word No just leaves a lasting imprint in their memories because they hear it often. They always hear it from Mommy and Daddy every time they tell them not to do this and not to do that.
It’s just now that I realize, that could be it! Parents say the word No so frequently that they tend to copy it.
Repetition really is the key.
