Save My Sanity Plan for the School Holidays
September 30th 2006 12:40
In our beautiful state of New South Wales the entire schooling population is taking a two week hiatus from arithmetic, Shakespeare and catch and kiss. School holidays are here again and along with them, greying mum’s who are counting down the days until school resumes.
I love having Jack at home during the holidays but I find that I need to have a number of activities organized to keep myself sane and the little tucker exhausted, I mean happy.
So, here are some of the things that we plan on doing this school holidays:
1) Head to Greater Union and catch ‘The Wild’ – what child wouldn’t love a movie about a lion?
2) Grow a pizza garden – as seen on Inner West Life. Dirt, water and a spade equates to a very happy child
3) Pack a picnic and spend a day at the beach, weather permitting. Surf, sand and sun is just so much fun! Oh, except when it all ends up on the car floor along with a hundred ‘rescued’ sea shells.
4) Have a water fight while cleaning the car (see point 3).
5) Put a tent up in the backyard and have a sleep out. We’ll really be roughing it with a back door key and a blow up mattress.
6) Make some Viennese Shortbread Stars – as seen on Receipe.org
Naturally, once Jack has fallen into a deep, exercise induced sleep I will partake in a little relaxation technique that I’ve acquired a taste for over the years.
A glass of red, some blues music, my laptop and a great story idea.

Victorian school holidays have just finished (hurray) and my seven year old bug is finally back at school. Why is it that a two week school holiday always feels like it's twice as long.
I took my two bugs for good long walks ... tires them out nicely!

A walk does wonders doesn't it?
Kids get so bored these days that you practically need a daily schedule which stacks of things to do to keep them occupied.
By the end of the two weeks we parents need a holiday!

I'm actually looking forward to getting back to my writiing ... it seems like such a long time since I wrote a decent string of words designed for adult eyes only.
I love my bugs to death but I must admit that I am always a bit relieved when the holidays are finally over. Anyway, good luck with the holiday activities, I'm sure you'll do a great job keeping your Jack amused and exhausted.
Have to go, my three year old is sticking bits of scrap paper to the carpet ... hang on, where did he get that glue from ... ?

I'm sick of trying to get play dough out of the carpets!
Have fun!
