Curious George

There once was a chimp called George. He was very curious. Hence, he was called ‘Curious George’.
George is the original ‘monkey see, monkey do’, getting himself into loads of mischief that will make both the kids and adults laugh. Based on the popular children’s book by Hans and Margaret Rey, Curious George is a film about companionship, believing in yourself and disturbing the peace as much as you can!
Featuring the voice talents of Will Ferrell, Drew Barrymore, Dick Van Dyke and Eugene Levy, Curious George also has an original soundtrack featuring music written and performed by Jack Johnson.
Will Ferrell lends his voice to Ted, a museum guide whose job is threatened by the impending shut down of the museum. In an attempt to restore the museum to its former glory Ted heads off on an expedition to Africa to find a lost artifact. Along the way he has the (mis-) fortune of meeting Curious George. Curious George follows Ted back to America and reigns havoc with Ted’s life.
This is a fun and sweet movie for the little ones, parents and grandparents. It raises some underlying issues such as the move away from visiting museums in favour of other pass-times (of course, we have to go to the movies to see the movie to get that point), the importance of learning through experience instead of lectures (hmmm teacher’s pay attention) and of course, the classic moral of you can do anything if you truly believe in yourself (isn’t there a song or two about that?).
The theatre was packed with kids cackling away at George’s antics and to be honest, I’m not sure if it was the movie I enjoyed or the sounds of children enjoying a film that didn’t have caped crusaders, guns or fighting in it.
